Basic EOD Equipment

The Wichita Police Department Bomb Squad works with various tool to accomplish the mission. Below are a few equipments that are used by the Bomb Squad.

Equipment Truck

This truck houses the several equipments for every mission of the the Wichita Police Bomb Squad. The vehicle has a generator that allows the Bomb Technician to operate several powered equipment in rural areas where power is limited.

Robot

This is the Andros F6A robot. This robot has the capability of climbing stairs, which allows the Bomb Technician to work on mutliply stories of any building. It is operated remotely from the truck through several video cameras onboard the robot. This help keeps the Bomb Technician at a safe distance.

Total Containment Vessel

The Total Containment Vessel (TCV) allows the Bomb Squad to transport suspected devices or military ordnances to a remote location, away from the public to be destroyed. Should a suspect device or ordnance detonate inside the containment vessel, the fragments are contained inside the vessel. The pressure is then vented through a couple of small holes on the vessel.

X-Ray Source

The X-ray source is a very important piece of equipment for the Bomb Technician. Just like the X-ray that is utilized in the hospital to check for health problems. The Bomb Technician will use this equipment to check suspicious packages for components of a improvised explosive device.

Cassette

The cassette is used in conjunction with the X-ray source. This contains the film that is processed to obtain the image of the suspected device for the Bomb Technician to interpret, just like a doctor would do at a hospital. The film that is placed inside the cassette can be processed with a few minutes on sight.

Bomb Suit

The bomb suit is the most important equipment for the Bomb Technician. This provides most of his/her protection while dealing with a suspected device. This suit helps prevent fragmentation should a suspected device detonate, although the Technician will suffer other medical problems.
